Holidays in Alanya

During the past decade Alanya has become the place to be for people of all ages. There are better beaches in Turkey but the Cleopatra beach which lies to the west of the resort is up to most beach lovers standard. As with any popular beach resort you'll be spoilt for choice if you are in to water sports. What makes Alanya attractive is that it can offer something for everyone. The narrow alleyways are lined with traditional shops and stalls tempting shoppers with their colourful boutiques and stalls of cheese-cloth dresses, carpets, copper and jewellery. Alanya is around 65 miles from Antalya airport.

When to go

The major resorts on the Turkish Riviera are open all year. Temperatures in the Turkish Riviera coastal resorts average a maximum of 16° Celsius during the winter months from December to March but can rise to the low 30's during the summer peak season.

Cleopatra beach is mainly what attracts visitors to the part of the Turkish Riviera. It offers the usual facilities and is lined with plenty of friendly bars, tea-houses, cafes and restaurants. In the old town you find many old houses, towers and mosques, as well as a nice small harbour.

The Damlatas caves were discovered in the late 1940's purely by mistake when they were blasting to make way for the new harbour. They have now become one of the most visited attraction in Alanya. There are three caves in total and boat trips from the harbour are a nice way to see them but you can also visit them on foot. The inside of the caves has a constant temperature of 22-23° Celsius and humidity level of more than 90 %. They are said to be good for sufferers of asthma and other respiratory problems and an early morning session is set aside solely for sufferers. The caves are open between 10am & 6pm daily throughout the year.
